Eretz Israel Museum, Exhibits for the Entire Family

In honor of Tel Aviv’s centennial celebrations, the Castles in the Sand exhibit will be featured until October 25, 2009 at the Eretz Israel Museum. The exhibit, a tribute made possible by the Dutch Embassy in Israel, features sand castles recreating Habima Theater, Mugrabi Opera House and Herzliya High School – the first Hebrew high school. The sand castles were sculpted by artists from the World Sand Sculpting Academy, in Holland.

Tel Aviv Museum Exhibit, “Valley on the Way to Kfar Yehoshua” – Paintings by Elie Shamir

In an impressive and comprehensive exhibit, painter Elie Shamir – who was born in Kfar Yehoshua – presents the village that he was born in, views of the Jezreel Valley, the link between man and his land, between Jewish pioneers and the Arab natives and between the farmer and his field. In his paintings, Elie Shamir corresponds with ancient mythologies and artistic traditions that are intertwined with the story of a farming  community and his personal memories. The interesting changes that transpire over the years are evident in the paintings, from the portraits of valley residents, to sowing the fields and the Chinese migrant workers eating in the fields. Shamir is a clear representative of Israeli painting, while also relying on motifs typical of artistic traditions.

Leonard Cohen to perform in Israel, September 24

Twenty nine years after his last performance in Israel, legendary performer Leonard Cohen will play at the Ramat Gan Stadium on September 24. Cohen will perform in Israel as part of his European world tour, under the banner “Reconciliation, Tolerance and Peace.” Six band members and three back-up singers will accompany him for the show, which is expected to last three yours and include his greatest hits, including “Suzanne,” “Dance Me to the End of Love,” “Hallelujah,” “Chelsea Hotel,” “So Long, Marianne,” and many others. No special effects are expected (contrary to Madonna’s recent show in Tel Aviv… At best Leonard Cohen give a tip of the hat). But you can expect an amazing, emotional and exciting show.
